Children’s Mental Health Ontario (CMHO) Re-Accreditation:

In June of 2011 Turning Point underwent the formal site review process in order to be re-accredited by CMHO. I am very pleased to announce that not only were we successful, but we achieved an overall score of 97% against a long list of governance, management, operational, program and staffing standards that represent the best practices for our industry.

Congratulations to our Board of Directors, management team and staff for their commitment to excellence and their dedication to ensuring service quality for our clients, and many thanks for the tremendous amount of work that resulted in this achievement.

Children’s Mental Health and Addictions Funding:

In the spring the Provincial Government announced their commitment to increase funding for children’s mental health and addictions services by $257 million over a three year period. In August of this year, specific funding allocations were announced to selected agencies across the Province to begin to address problems with long wait times for service and difficulties in accessing mental health and addictions services.

Turning Point was successful in receiving new children’s mental health funding which will be used to hire new staff to address the following service gaps:

  • Reduce waiting times for youth and families who on average have had to wait up to 4-5 months to see a counsellor.
  • Improve access to mental health supports for youth involved with Probation and who have come in contact with the youth criminal justice system.

We are thankful for this new funding and pleased that the Province has indicated its commitment to addressing the need for increased mental health and addictions services. This is a much needed boost to agencies that have spent many years without increased funding.
