Clinical and Counselling Services
The Clinical and Counselling Team provides competency based, solution focused mental health and counselling to youth 12-18 years of age and their families. Our highly qualified team of professional staff are able to provide a range of individual and family counselling, assessment, case management, referral and treatment. Services provided by the team are augmented by access to psychiatric and psychological consultation services where appropriate. These consultation services are available to all of our programs and services.
Referrals to the Counselling Services are facilitated through our Intake Coordinator who receives the service request and conducts a brief telephone interview. Service requests are prioritized based on immediacy of need and assigned to a counsellor as soon as possible.
Keeping Families Together
As part of our range of services, Turning Point Youth Services in partnership with the Child Welfare Agencies provides counselling and support services to families whose children are at risk of being placed in care, or are returning to home after a period of being in care. Services are available in office or in home, and are time limited in duration.
Referrals to this service are directed by the Child Welfare Agency responsible for the care of the family and youth.
Youth Court Mental Health Worker
Turning Point Youth Services partners with The Griffin Centre to provide our Youth Court Mental Health Worker Service. Funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, Youth Justice Division, this service is based on a belief that youth in conflict with the law who also have a mental health disorder are best assisted by diverting them from the formal court process to mental health services.
Concurrent Disorder Program
With the support of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Turning Point offers a short-term stabilization service for male youth who struggle with mental health and substance abuse difficulties. Located within our existing emergency youth shelter and augmented by clinical and case management supports, this service is designed to provide short-term respite and support to homeless and street involved youth aged 16-24.
Violence Prevention
Group and individual counselling is available for youth struggling with issues of violence in their lives. Supports and counselling options are provided to both perpetrators of violence and youth who have been victimized or traumatized by violence.
